Starting the Fall with a Bit of Summer

It is going to be a BEEEAA-utiful weekend up here in New Hampshire, with a little bit of something for everyone who’s able to operate outside of a WiFi signal.

The first blush of fall color is breaking through, chilly mornings – wrapped in fog and wood smoke – quickly burn off to bright sunshine and blue skies, and the Dimond Hill Farm is festooned (how’s that for a three-dollar word) with pumpkins, gourds, mums, winter squash, apples and potatoes, along with the usual selection of artisan coffee, honey, ice cream, meats, breads, cheeses, sodee pop, and much more.

By tradition, of course, it’s a bit too early to be declaring “Indian Summer,” as that label is most often attached to those warm spells in late October or November. But by intention, it will indeed be an Indian Summer-type of weekend and one that begs us to come out of the house and spend some time soaking up the fresh air and sunshine before the cold winter weather wrings the warmth out of it all.

And there’s no better way of enjoying this nice weather than to bring yourselves (and your family) down to the Dimond Hill Farm to enjoy the wonderful views, stonewalls and hayfields that make this traditional New England farm an icon of years gone by.

So, what can you do at the Dimond Hill Farm?

Well, you can take a ride over and pick out a pumpkin or pick up a mum for decoration (or for your mom), or bring a blanket and sit on the hillside and enjoy the scenery for a bit. You can walk the dog through our two miles of trails, or you can visit with the llamas, or sit in a 19th century barn and smell the fresh hay. And, of course, you can pick up some fresh fruits and vegetables for supper. (After all, once the season passes you’ll be back to buying beets from Brazil or pears from Panama … or tomatoes from the cardboard factory.)

Oh well, Jane keeps telling me that I brag too much about the farm, but with something this beautiful and natural within easy driving distance of Concord and Manchester, what’s not to brag about?

Anyway, nuff said …
